Early morning walks are a healthy way to begin the day. In summer, the early morning is usually cool and that's when
the birds and wildlife feed. A great time for a canoe ride to watch the Blue Heron, ducks and loons.
Bike is another good way to get around ( nice 10 speed in the shed) and the rolling hills really make it fun. Great exercise
also. Then cool off with a swim in the pond. I confess, it mostly stays in the shed, but I feel healthy knowing it is there.
Eating at Sporto's was part of the New Durham experience. Sadly, the restaurant closed this summer. Next to Johnson's
restaurant is a gourmet wine and cheese store. They also sell wonderful baked goods. There is a butcher shop in the rear with
an awesome selection of custom cuts. Their marinated turkey tips (cilantro and lime) are unforgetable.
Definately go into the New Durham Public Library and meet Max and Kathy and see if there are any activites scheduled
that might catch your interest. The programs they run for the kids are really amazing. And I am proud to be an elected
Trustee of the Library. You will see pastures full of cows as you enter the town. And chickens and ducks running over lawns.
But do not be deceived. This is a very eclectic community.
If you love a bargain, there is TRudy's in Alton. It is a very well run consignment shop (John, the owner used to run
a PX in the military) with some very good bargains. If you like antiques, visit Yesterday's Post Office. It is owned by my
good friends Betty and Lorraine who have a wonderful selection of goodies and bargains.
Wolfboro is the next town and has many good restaurants as well as a very lively main street. Additionally, this
summer, the place was overrun by Secret Service Agents as this is where Mitt has a summer house (mansion actually).
